But then one day something happened. I got mad. Furious. Absolutely enraged. And when that happened, I pumped out rep after rep of the heaviest I could bench (70lbs) until I was exhausted. I just wanted to break stuff (which coincidentally was the song playing on my headphones). Then my partner pulled the two 25's and replaced them with 45's and said lift. I only got 2. But until that point, I had never done that before. Since that moment, all I wanted to do was keep doing more. I no longer wanted to avoid the gym. It was my release. My confidence started coming out. I started feeling less and less sorry for myself. As time went on, I noticed I was getting more looks from the women at the gym. The girls at work started talking to me differently. My bosses started talking to me differently. My tone changed. My attitude changed. And then I started seeing the gains. They were small, but definitely there. I've always been able to pick a 300lb+ resident straight out of the floor due to leverage, but now I actually have the ability to control that weight and hold them when the need arises with more ease.
