You Can't Build Muscle OVER 40 Naturally!

It’s generally felt that you would be able to’t construct muscle over 40 naturally or with out using PED’s. On this video, I’m tackling this conception head on. This comes within the type of a query and reply session the place we open up our remark part to our viewers to ask their most burning questions. One of many themes that repeatedly comes up is with regards to how a lot muscle will be constructed over the age of 40 naturally.

In case you hearken to most social media influencers, or just take a look at their physiques, you’ll have seen a pattern within the final couple years in the direction of unnatural improvement. With the nice media push of the advantages of testosterone in “alternative” dosages, we now have seen a report variety of males transfer in the direction of exogenous types of T to assist them construct muscle.

In actual fact, some can have you satisfied that it’s the solely method to construct muscle, and even look good, over the age of 40.

I couldn’t disagree extra.

This has been used as a copout on a grand stage, for a reluctance to have interaction in onerous work and constant effort in coaching. In actual fact, essentially the most rampant use of this technique for constructing muscle is going on in an age bracket far beneath the boys of their 40’s. We’re speaking about children of their 20’s who’re abusing TRT and interesting in PED use in an try to hurry up the pure strategy of bodybuilding.

As somebody who has pursued my profession as a lifelong pure, I discover this to be discouraging and a disturbing pattern within the fallacious path. Far too many social media influencers are knowingly or unknowingly main many males, younger and outdated, down the fallacious path to health and higher well being.

To not point out, the instances that the admission of TRT is definitely a mere smokescreen for the issues they gained’t inform you they’re taking are numerous. Ever see a man who needs you to assume that the one factor he’s utilizing is a few alternative dose of hormones, when he has not solely a historical past of long run PED use however a bent to be caught up in complement scams and authorized troubles? I’m certain you will have, as a result of there are fairly just a few of them.

The purpose is, when PED’s are the primary place our younger lifters flip once they wish to make muscle positive factors, we now have a significant concern and it’s one which has been triggered sadly by the very platforms which have delivered the training to a tough working various.

“You’ll be able to’t construct muscle over 40 naturally” is what they’ll say.

That’s merely not true. There have truly been quite a few, nicely carried out research which have been performed that show in any other case. The secret is a devoted consistency to the trigger.

No, I’m not speaking about figuring out and consuming proper for just a few weeks and even months. I’m speaking about ensuring to have all features of your coaching and diet in examine and to proceed on that path for years and years on finish. It’s truly a lot simpler to do when you find yourself following a workout plan that doesn’t break your physique down, however makes you’re feeling higher or when you find yourself following a diet plan that doesn’t depend on hunger and deprivation however on consuming in a means that’s gratifying and nonetheless progressive by way of fats loss and muscle constructing.

In case you look even on the case of a youthful man like Jesse from ATHLEAN-X, you possibly can see what life like muscle positive factors can appear to be. Some have witnessed his physique transformation and referred to as the 5 12 months outcomes superb. Others have considered the exact same movies and stated that he’s scrawny and hasn’t made any positive factors in any respect. It simply goes to indicate you ways distorted the notion of pure progress has turn into due to the blurred traces which have been created by social media and phony health influencers.

The important thing to creating new positive factors begins in your head.

It’s essential notice that the diploma of muscle development and fats loss you want is probably going achievable by way of nothing greater than onerous work and dedication. It really is. There are individuals who stroll round proper now with the kind of physique that you could be want, doing nothing greater than staying true to their targets and main the healthiest life potential within the pursuit of them.

Does it take extra time?

Completely.

They don’t name them efficiency enhancing medication for no cause. They won’t solely velocity up the tempo of the muscle constructing outcomes that you would be able to expertise however they enhance the diploma and the quantity of them which can be potential. However that doesn’t imply that that you must select that path.

  3. Thank you for this video. I am 38 and I only started lifting weights at 34. I was 230lbs when I started and now I am 160lbs. While I 've acheived weight loss goals and look good it feels like it's taking forver to build muscle. It feels like everyone else is on something and all the young guys at the gym are further ahead of me. Seeing videos like this helps me to feel good about myself and keep my head on straight. Thank you for making videos and keep doing what you do it is very important to the natty community to have spokepeople like you.

  4. My first fitness instructor was Jack LaLanne. I was really young at the time. I was not willing to follow all his instructions. But I remembered parts of the guidelines in general. Your videos are much more thorough and recorded so they are repeatable and more helpful. Thank you for all the helpful information you share about healthy physical development.

  5. I'm 49 and I can still gain muscle, If you find that you can't gain muscle at any point in your life, It often means that you might need to find a new way to train so that you can gain muscle. What works for one person might not work for someone else. I'd experiment on different ways to train cause there's not just one way of doing so. Look into controlled form and sets instead of going through the motions of a lift. I see that a lot. The only issue I have at my age is that I pull muscles a lot easier than when I was younger and having have lifted weights most of my life, my joints are not that great as back then either. I've gained muscle with light weight and heavy weights. I never took any PED's either in my life, Like Jeff, They scare me. Great Video, And Jesse looks great BTW, Don't listed to bad comments or let them get you down. Focus on yourself and what you do. It's all that you can control anyway.

  6. I am 52, diabetic, and I am still putting on muscle a little at a time. My legs are the most muscular they have ever been. I got my leanest this past year and am maintaining a 6 pack while I added 1 inch to my thighs over the last year. I am natural so I don't expect to look like an ibbf pro but i am happy with my results and will continue to push myself to stay healthy and build the best body I can.

  7. Fantastic video. I’m so glad I started working out a solid 15 years BEFORE social media really got going. Kids now days are already doubting what’s possible before even starting. As far as guys over 40 building muscle, yes you can but imo, you will never build as good a physique as you could have if you started in your teens.

  8. Im 39 and just starting training weights for roughy 12 months natural and I am blown away with the results… mostly surprised because I too thought you couldn't really gain muscle after 30… but with 12 months of consistent hard training and a planned diet to go with it I have built muscle all over and look/feel completely different.

  9. God I love this so much, because I'm on the same lines as you. Never tried any drugs or smoked. I workout for the health benefits and what I can obtain naturally, have Noone to impress and nit jeopardizing my health just for aesthetics..

  10. Maybe you lose muscle mass as you get older idk but you definitely get thicker bone density as you get older and I'd think that's probably better because you can still maintain and keep muscle it's just harder than when you are younger I guess.

  11. You get what you give IF
you consistently put in a good effort using proven technique.

Im not embellishing saying in my 20s I was in better shape than most& now Im 60 & still in better shape than most in their 20s.

    Work Smart THEN Hard &
    Nutrition Is Huge.

    PED
We all carry mutations of various cell types. Exogenous GH can stimulate those to grow too.
    I won’t touch the shit

  12. Mate i LOVE your channel, your honesty and mentality. I am a 51yr old PT that train’s Jiu Jits 6 day’s a week, surf’s and skate’s with my son and strength train 5 day’s a week, I also eat clean, hydrate properly amd dont smoke or drink. I will be sharing this video with every friend client of mine as ive thought the same way as you for over 20yrs.

  13. Good, healthy info like this is just as important to have and use as good technique in the gym and good nutrition

Cheers for always putting out the good info Jeff!

  14. What is the best stuff I can get at gnc, currently? Also, is it not true that many things that are on sale at gnc are banned by usada and the nfl? I am not sure what “the line” is…

  15. Thank you Jeff. I am 21, 1 1/2 yrs into training, and I almost break down in tears after a workout when I see younger people look so much better than me. It makes me feel so worthless and hate myself for starting so late. I know comparison is the thief of joy but I can't help but feel like this. Not to mention 99.99% of women preferring athletes and douchebags who started lifting at 8 yrs old.

  16. The guy who asked the question that said he's convinced that 90% of his gym is on peds, that guy is an idiot and also part of the problem. Like you may not be able to say that but I sure can.

His problem is that it's not everybody else that's on peds but that he does not do workouts correctly and he also does not take in the nutrients that his body needs either. I know this for a fact because I am a former athlete as well and I am also been in spurts of where I've been incredibly lazy on a physical activity basis. So there are times where I feel like I need to regain my physique as well. And in order for me to do that basically it's just I have to eat right and put in a tiny bit of effort. In my experience it takes 2 weeks of decent effort in order for you to start noticing results. And by decent effort you better be spending on a steak dinner every night and you better be working your ass off so that you feel like you want that. But yeah the main thing is is that you have to adjust your diet in order to be able to get the larger physique because the body just doesn't make it out of magic. This gets even more painfully clear when you get older.

To put it succinctly. I come from a family of Old Farmers that have bodies of teenagers when they are in their 60s. My 60 something dad looks like he's in his 40s. Me a 37 still look like I'm in my twenties on a good day. The problem of building physique is literally just using your body and making sure it has all the fuel that it needs.

  17. I'm in my mid-fifties and able to build muscle and strength. Like Jeff I eat well, most everyday hit my macros, kept body fat 14-17% and do a dexa scan every year. I have done a some of Jeff's programs and many others. I primarily do professional programs in mesocycles but not with any textbook structure. I typically stick to 5 or 6 day programs and miss only a few days a year. I set stretch goals relative to my progression and what I learn about human physical performance. In physique I am similar to Jeff and Jesse. I see many people are looking for an EASY button and compare themselves to marketing/magazines/internet models for validation. Just be happy in the body God gave you, take care of it, and be able to care for those around you.

  18. I really appreciate all the informative videos. I am 48 and just started lifting weights at a gym last week. "The Best of the Best" is my favorite series, so I can be in the gym, do what I need to do correctly and safely, and get out; while getting the best workout in the shortest time. I can't afford to get injured by being ignorant of proper techniques. I want to lose fat but gain muscle, and I have a long way to go. I eat 1 gram of protein per centimeter of my height and 5 grams of creatine daily. I am very grateful again for the tutorials and informative information on building muscles and the correct diet to reap all the benefits of both. Tell Jessie I got about 20lbs pounds for free belly fat if he wants. Totally free, with no taxes or strings attached.

  19. Sir you talk a lot of sense. I'm 72 years young & I have followed you & more importantly Jesse for a couple.e of years and worked out using some of the advice you have talked about on your utube videos. 1 caveat I can't do some things bad knees that I still work on but the workouts are longer with more rest between sets & achange up one time heavy next time lighter. But I have put on a ton of size on my shoulders. Jesse you are a hero. Jeff keep them coming.

  20. There are two questions going on here. Can you build muscle over 40? Yes you can. Will you be shredded and huge like these guys if you STARTED working out over 40(not years before)? Probably not unless you dedicate a LOT of time and effort to it. That being said, you can still be in much better shape than you are now and much better shape than most people are and look a lot better with a decent training and nutrition schedule. Even just three to four days a week, an hour a day(no socializing just get it done) will have a noticeable effect. I actually hate working out. I'm 52 riddled with injuries and rarely feel good about going to the gym but I do get results even with my mediocre schedule.

  21. I agree that if you have genetics on your side you will have exceptional muscle gains. BUT the Lying King and The Rock do take PED’s. After 50 genetics will only take you so far man c’mon.

  22. Im 39 im doing crossfit but i was doing nothing but HIIT workouts for like 8 years i lost a bunch of muscle but i have definitely increased in strength in about 3 months and gained muscle AND lost weight in 3 month from lifting heavy for the first time in years again over 30,35 almost 40

  23. This issue is so tragic. I’m 28 and started lifting again 7 months ago after not training since college. I promised myself that I would not judge my physique until at least 2 full years in (even though I’m actually starting to look decent). I want training to be a sustainable lifestyle and part of who I am until I die.

So many men, young and old, are way too caught up in “gains”. Gains should not be the goal. Gains should be a byproduct of living a healthy life. PEDS ARE NOT HEALTHY. Please don’t put your body at risk. It’s not worth it. Much love.

  24. Great video, you DO NOT need drugs to build muscle. I couldn't agree more with Jeff on this subject about muscle gain.
I'm 66 and I'm growing muscle. It doesn't grow the way it did when I was a young man but it is growing. Eat healthy, lift weights, and enjoy life.

  25. I am 69 and only started working out with any regularity in the past 3 months. Before that my workouts were too irregular to really count.

I can't say I have built much muscle as far as the way I look I have built a little bit. But I am getting stronger. Progress is slow but that's fine with me. Problem is I am dealing with a slight (I hope) back muscle issue which I have to work around. Taking a moderate approach. More reps & less weight and then increase weight slightly and cut back on reps if I need to while still trying to slowly increase reps and weight. Using bands at home and machines at the gym.

  26. Jeff is a good dude, you eat correctly and are super disciplined. And this is the correct message. Maybe the message should switch to mobility, strength and cardio. And less of the lower ab region images and what not.

  27. I agree 💯 with Jeff on the fact that the Rock, as much as I dislike him, he isn't trying to sell anyone on, if you take this, you will look like me. Compared to the liver king actually selling products telling people to take this and you will look like this. I could care less what someone does with their body, but trying to make money on lies is misleading and I think people who bought products from the liver king should get their money back.

  28. I just turned 51 and started lifting about 5 years ago with a starting BW of 177 lbs, now up to 202-204 lbs. I have my own home gym (barbells/dumbbells, bench with leg attachment, used cable machine, pull-up bar, and incline bench). Bench press, OHP, squat, and DL all have increased by 50% or more. I lift 4-6 times a week using my own workout program I've customized and modified for what works best for me.
